The orchestral version of Romani Anthem. The lyrics written by Zharko Jovanovic, a Serbian musician and composer, using a melody of Romani folk song. The anthem was created in 1949, as a reflection of Romani suffering in World War II. The song was first adopted by delegates of the first World Romani Congress held in 1971 in London. This official standardized version of Romani Anthem was produced by Musical-Choral Association from Moldova and performed by Moldavian Youth Orchestra. The Anthem was commissioned by the Open Society Romani Initiative Office.

The anthem starts in elegiac mode (minor) as two persecuted Roma meet after the escape from the black legions. It symbolizes the first encounters with dark forces of humanity which triggered the start of unstructured search for peaceful place. In the second part, the attached rhythm and moderate walking pace has metaphoric meaning about past and current efforts for structuring our movement (the walk) and vision towards better tomorrow. The last part ends in positive mode (major) in which we collectively reach our peace, freedom and dignity. It is long way to go and the roads are many.
